Where Season 2 sits in the NINJAGO timeline
NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu kicked off with the pilot episodes in 2011, followed by the first full season, Rise of the Snakes. That season ends with the defeat of the Great Devourer and the reveal that Lloyd is the Green Ninja. Legacy of the Green Ninja picks up right there.
Season 2 closes out the original storyline that the pilots and Season 1 had been building towards. After it comes Season 3, Rebooted, with its high-tech Ninjago City and a completely new kind of enemy.
Story overview (spoiler-light)
With the Great Devourer gone, the ninja have one job: prepare Lloyd for his destiny. The prophecy says the Green Ninja will one day face the Dark Lord, and the Dark Lord is Lloyd's own father, Lord Garmadon. That family conflict is the emotional core of the season.
Garmadon has not been idle. He forges the four Golden Weapons into one Mega Weapon, and his attempts to use it drive most of the early episodes. A cup of Tomorrow's Tea then speeds things up in the most literal way: Lloyd grows from a child into a teenager overnight. Along the way we also meet Lloyd's mother, Misako, who knows more about the ancient history of Ninjago than anyone expected.
In the second half the real enemy steps out of the shadows: the Overlord, an ancient evil with an army of indestructible stone warriors. The ninja travel to the Dark Island in search of the Temple of Light, the only place that might give them a fighting chance. It all builds to the Final Battle between light and darkness. We will not spoil how it ends, but it is one of the most satisfying finales in early NINJAGO and a natural high point before you move on to later seasons.

Legacy of the Green Ninja regularly turns up on streaming services and in digital stores that carry the classic Masters of Spinjitzu seasons. Search for Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu Season 2 or Legacy of the Green Ninja, not just "Ninjago Season 2", or you may end up with Dragons Rising. Watching the pilots and Season 1 first makes the payoffs land far harder, so we recommend going in order.
The sets and minifigures of Season 2
This is where Season 2 becomes a collector's playground. The matching sets arrived at the turn of the year as the 2013 NINJAGO wave, sold as The Final Battle. They follow the second half of the season closely: the Stone Army, the Garmatron, the golden powers and the Temple of Light. All of them have been retired for years, which is exactly why fans still hunt for them.

The Temple of Light (70505) is the centrepiece: the temple from the season, with a golden mech that only works when the four elemental blades of Fire, Lightning, Ice and Earth come together. The Golden Dragon (70503) is the one many fans remember best, with Lloyd as the Golden Ninja on his golden dragon.
The minifigures are arguably the bigger draw. Kai, Jay, Cole and Zane wear their kimono outfits from this season, one ninja per set. Add Golden Ninja Lloyd, the Kozu general and the Stone Army soldiers, and you have a line-up that is hard to complete from sealed boxes. Loose minifigures and individual parts are the practical way to do it, which is precisely where buying individual pieces shines.
