LEGO® Technic axles are the rotating shafts that carry power through every Technic build. Unlike studded bricks, a Technic axle is a cross axle: its plus-shaped profile locks into gears, bushings and wheel hubs so it transfers rotation and drive without slipping. Length is measured in studs and written as L, so a 4L axle spans four studs. LEGO even colour-codes the plain axles by length, with even lengths in one tone and odd lengths in another, which makes picking the right one by eye much faster. The Technic axle range runs from the tiny 2L up to the long 32L.

Choosing the exact length matters: an axle that is one stud too long or too short simply will not seat correctly, so the part number is your friend. The core plain axles run 2L (3704), 3L (4519), 4L (3705), 5L (32073), 6L (3706), 8L (3707), 10L (3737), 11L (23948), 12L (3708) and the extra-long 32L (50450). For axles that need a hard end stop there is the 3L with stop (24316), 4L with stop (87083), 5L with stop (15462), 5.5L with stop (32209) and 8L with stop (55013). Need a notched or stub variant for precise positioning? Reach for the 2L notched (32062) or the 4L with center stop (99008). Getting the length right first time is what keeps a gearbox, differential or steering rack turning smoothly.

Beyond plain shafts, this category holds the connector-style variants your mechanisms rely on: axles with a pin on one end such as the 1L with pin (3749, 43093), 2L with pin (18651, 65249) and the combined 1L axle 2L pin (11214), plus the 3L with stud (6587), the 1L with tow ball (2736), the 1L with rotation clip (40144), the 2L reverser handle connector (6553) and the short metal axle for early gear sets (bb0301). Pair these with matching Technic gears, lock them down with the right Technic connectors and brace them inside sturdy Technic liftarms.

Most builders land here looking for one specific length or part number to finish a drivetrain, repair a set or scale up a MOC. Search by length in studs or drop in the exact number to pinpoint the axle you need. When you are ready to round out the assembly, the full Technic category and all parts are one click away.
