Liftarms are the studless beams at the heart of modern LEGO® Technic. Since around the year 2000 they have replaced studded bricks as the structural backbone of advanced Technic models, letting builders create strong, precise frames held together with pins and axles instead of stacking studs. Whether you are bracing a chassis, building a robot arm, or laying out a gearbox, liftarms (also called beams) are the parts you reach for first. Liftarms come in both straight and angled (bent) varieties in the common lengths.
Straight liftarms run the full range you need for clean linear builds. The thick line includes the 43857 1x2, 32523 1x3, 32316 1x5, 32524 1x7, 40490 1x9, 32525 1x11, 41239 1x13 and the long 32278 1x15. The thin line covers the 41677 1x2 with axle holes, 6632 1x3, 32449 1x4, 32017 and 32063 in 1x5 and 1x6, plus the 32065 1x7. Bent and angled liftarms handle the geometry that straight beams cannot: the 32348 1x7 (4-4), the 32271 and 6629 1x9 (7-3 and 6-4), and the iconic 32009 1x11.5 double bent beam used in countless suspension and frame builds.
Beyond simple beams, Technic has the specialist shapes that define real Technic engineering: thick L-shape beams like the 32140 and 71708, thin L-shapes such as the 32056 and 32251, the 32526 3x5 L-beam, the 64179 5x7 open-centre frame, the 99773 and 2905 triangle beams, and ball-joint liftarms like the 64276 and 98577. Thick beams carry load and resist twist; thin beams save weight and slot between thick layers. To finish a build you will usually pair these with parts from our Technic connectors and Technic axles collections, or brace large frames with Technic panels.
